Mencken (September 12, 1880 - January 29, 1956), was an American journalist, essayist, magazine editor, satirist, acerbic critic of American life and culture, and a student of American English. Biographical Note: Betty Adler was an author and lecturer. She was born in Havana in 1918 and came to Baltimore in 1933 as a student at Goucher College. Miss Adler was nationally known for her work on the Enoch Pratt Free Library's Mencken collection. She published "H.L.M.: The Mencken Bibliography" in 1961.
